What this is
One Million Small Things is a collection of real, small moments of kindness - given or received. Every story here should leave someone feeling a little more hopeful about people. That's the only real test.
What belongs here
- A specific moment of kindness - something someone did for you, or something you did for someone else
- Big or small - a stranger holding a door counts just as much as someone driving hours to help
- Honest and true to your experience
What doesn't belong here
No spam. No ads, promotions, links, or anything trying to sell something.
No trolling. No hateful, discriminatory, explicit, or harassing content. No rants or complaints that aren't actually about kindness.
Not off-topic. If it's not describing an act of kindness, it doesn't fit here - even if it's a nice thought.
A note on privacy
If your story mentions someone else, that's usually completely fine - "my neighbour," "a stranger on the bus," "my coworker" are all welcome. We ask that you avoid including a person's full name or enough detail to clearly identify them, since they haven't had a chance to agree to being part of a public story. If your submission includes something like that, we'll hold it for a quick human review rather than publishing it automatically - not because anything's wrong, just because it deserves a second look.
A note on heavier stories
Some of the most meaningful kindness happens around hard things - illness, grief, loss, hard days. Those stories absolutely belong here. Because they're more sensitive, a real person (not just an automated check) reads these before they're published, which means they might take a little longer to appear. That's by design - this is content worth taking care with.
If your story wasn't published
You'll get a specific reason if your submission couldn't be published. If you think it was a mistake, or you'd like to revise and resubmit, reach out to us at onemillionsmallthings@gmail.com.
